Do you ever wonder what the home life of Jesus was like? What was the temperament of his mother Mary and “dad” Joseph? How did he get along with his brothers/sisters? What did Joseph say when he noticed Jesus had built something incorrectly? Jesus was without sin – but his family was not perfect. How did that work itself out in the nitty-gritty of their life lived together? Questions that are good to ask- but ultimately will not be answered here on earth.
The beauty of Christmas is that Jesus entered into a world that was not perfect in order to redeem that same broken, lost, bound world. He knows families are messed up because he lived in one. He was tempted in every way as we are, yet is without sin, and then died for our brokenness and selfishness as the perfect substitute. A savior saves. He comes to be with us in our brokenness and calls us to himself as the answer for our hearts longing for love and meaning. He is Immanuel.
