Marriage Mentorship

Our mission is to encourage, equip and engage couples through the gospel of Jesus Christ.
Faith@Home starts with a healthy marriage.

WHAT ARE COUPLES SAYING ABOUT MARRAIGE MENTORSHIP?

“I thought I was good at communicating with my wife. Truth is; I wasn’t. I expected her to pick up on subtle cues, and I expected different responses to the same cues. I also learned that I was not reading my wife’s subtle cues. This resulted in a lot of fights and arguments over nothing. I learned we both were not communicating nearly as well as we thought.”

“This program gave us tools to help grow our relationship to a whole new level. The “SCOR” card has a forever home on our fridge. It helps us end a disagreement and come to an amicable solution before it becomes a fight. Hands down this helped us the most!”

- Past Marriage Mentorship Recipient

“We heard about marriage mentoring and didn’t know what that was. I figured we would either find out we needed a mentor, or maybe we could be a mentor…one way or the other, it could be a good thing. I thought it would be worth taking the risk.”

- Past Marriage Mentorship Recipient

“If anyone was thinking about seeking any type of counseling, therapy, or just looking for any type of help with their marriage I would definitely suggest this program. It has been monumental in strengthening my relationship with my wife.”

- Past Marriage Mentorship Recipient

“It really isn’t very scary at all!”

- Past Marriage Mentorship Recipient

“We recognized that the days and nights could get pretty long and uncomfortable once we were empty nesters if we didn’t have a strong marriage.”

“It’s somewhat intimidating for me to go out of my comfort zone, but my experience with this program really helped alleviate my trepidation. The couple we got paired with to mentor us were fabulous! They took us into their home and made us feel very welcome, and we worked through the process. They were helpful every step of the way and never made us feel judged. They made us feel like they were just there to help. This was very instrumental, in my opinion, of the success we had with the program.”

- Past Marriage Mentorship Recipient

“Every couple could benefit from this. We are all flawed; no marriage is perfect. This program has tools which make the work of marriage easier and lets you spend more time enjoying your marriage instead of having to “work” on it.”

- Past Marriage Mentorship Recipient

“We were expecting love, respect and honesty from each other but not giving it to our spouse. We wanted to act differently, but just didn’t know how. This program gave us some tools to get better together.”

- Past Marriage Mentorship Recipient

“Our mentors set us up for marriage success!”

Quick Marriage Survey

If you believe any of these are true about your marriage, good news–marriage mentorship is available now.

  1. I just wish my spouse and I could communicate more effectively, more of the time.
  2. My marriage is really great the way it is now, but if it could be even better, I’d like to learn how to get to the next level.
  3. I’d like to learn from other people who have improved their marriage so we can improve our marriage too.
  4. My spouse and I seem to always be in conflict about something, whether it’s money, communication or sex.
  5. I feel like my spouse and I are “stuck” in our marriage and need to know what to do to make things better.
  6. Simply put, we need help.

FAQ's

Q: What kind of marriages can benefit from marriage mentorship?
A: Couples who are planning for marriage in a premarital setting will benefit from starting with a solid foundation of skills and tools to begin their married life together. Couples who are starting a new chapter in their relationship such as having children, becoming empty nesters, or retirees can tune up their marriage for a new set of challenges. Couples who have conflict they just can’t seem to get past can learn new skills to rediscover the spouse they fell in love with years before.

Q: Who can seek out a marriage mentor couple?
A: Any couple at any stage in their marriage will likely benefit from enriching their marriage. Engaged, newly-weds, parenting couples of toddlers to teens and empty-nesters may find value in learning how to run the bases as a means to strengthen your relationship through mentorship coaching.

Q: Do marriage mentors have any training?
A:
Yes, they have gone through a training program sponsored by the “Dare to Be Different” organization, and they volunteer their time and experiences to walk beside couples desiring to experience marriage mentorship. Mentor couples are not therapists or marriage counselors. They are a supplement not a substitute for the pastor. At all times they are under the authority of the ordained clergy overseeing the ministry. Most of all, these are people who love God and want His blessings on your marriage.

Q: How are we partnered with a mentor couple?
A:
After you complete a confidential brief survey/application, a Bethel pastor and the mentorship coordinators will ask a mentor couple to contact you.

Q: What does the mentor couple do?
A:
The mentor couple will provide encouraging dialogue while incorporating great teaching skills. It is coaching; it is not lecturing. The role of the mentor is to encourage the couple to express their thoughts and feelings openly and respectfully with each other within the framework of a listening, supportive and confidential atmosphere.

Q: Is our involvement with marriage mentorship confidential?
A:
Yes, the only people who will know you are involved are the mentorship coordinators, the pastor and anyone you choose to tell.

Q: How long is the marriage mentorship program?
A:
You will meet regularly, most often weekly, with your mentor couple at their home for between 4 and 10 sessions, depending on the results of the assessment tool. The sessions are individualized for your specific needs and generally last 1 ½ hours. This is not a one-size-fits-all experience.

Q: Why do we ask couples to take a survey?
A:
The survey is used as a guide as the mentor works with the couple to help each person understand one another and develop better communication skills. It is not a pass/fail test. It is used to identify strengths and weaknesses in the relationship. This survey takes 20-30 minutes to complete and requires honesty when responding to the survey items.

Q: How much does this cost?
A:
The fee for the entire mentorship program is $ 75.00 and this goes to the “Dare to Be Different” organization for the assessment tool we use. Your mentor couple and Bethel Church are not paid in any way. There are scholarship options to reduce the cost if needed.

Q: We want to do this, when can we start?
A:
We can start any time you are ready, just fill out the online mentorship application and we will be in touch to get you started.
